In 1997, I joined the military without any regrets and quickly found my belonging. The years I served in the Army prepared me to overcome life's unexpected moments. More so, it gave me courage to pursue the unknown and to make the most from every situation. Life is not without surprises though and I found myself overseas in a foreign land, trying to win hearts and minds.
Helping veterans every day in my professional career I understood the brotherhood that I belonged. Obvious or subtle banter is sometimes all it takes to remind you of the friends you made. The unwavering camaraderie and exceptional leadership displayed is truly second to none.
Finally, years later I've come to fully understand what that means.
